Rude Awakening

I was reading an interview to André Saraiva, the French graffiti artist and mentioned that he wouldn't let any man wearing square tip shoes into a club. It was a sad epiphany for me. I ran home to see my dress shoes and 4 out of 5 had square tip. Oh my god what have I done. I fell sleep for the past 8 years in formal shoe wear. I had the most guido collection of dress shoes. In my defense I rarely wear dress shoes because they are not the most comfortable when it comes to walking, and living in New York thats all you do. I do have a descent up to date collection of casual shoes and sneakers. I turned to the most mainstream sources of mens fashion like GQ to confirm my fears. I am years behind in shoes. I am currently working to fix it here are some suggestions. Back to simpler classic shapes. If you want to be daring wear boots and long tips.

Do you Have a Minute for the Environment?

No I don't. I don't believe in charity. Charity is part of the problem, it means there is a problem that can't be solved through the implementation of structured solutions but with just enough money not to solve it but to contain it. In the only case a believe charity is useful is in the case of natural emergency and even then governments should have plans where there is no need for charity. Charity is just a selfish way to tell yourself you are doing something for a cause just so you can sleep better. Well that wasn't really the point I was trying to make. I go more for the not so market approach of all the people that bother you in the street for a donation for Greenpeace, starving children, the whales, orphan pandas.... The only charity I am really concerned about is the Andres Torres Welfare Fund (to donate Citibank Account 22718179). These people you see them from far away in the sidewalks holding their clipboards most of the time they attack in pairs. The only early warning you get is that on of them is already feasting on the attention some poor soul gave them. I am not a fan of market solutions but most of the problem with these wannabe hippies is that they don't pick the right people to approach you. If instead of some girls with a Rastafarian hat, cargo pants, and a bagie XL World Wild Life Fund t-shirt was the same girl with a shower and a dress (I am not so demanding) I might even turn and sat "No thank you" instead of not looking at them and running pass them. It has worked before Pamela Anderson and her endorsement for PETA help me gain more information about the organization. Now a know that PETA is not an alliteration of Pita but some thing about not eating squirrels or something. So please shower, show more skin, and maybe ill stop eating bald eagle eggs.

Happy 2009? Lets Hope So

Well I have to start with apologies for those of you who kept on checking the blog year round to find the same old stuff. I gave in to laziness (which shouldn't come to a surprise to many of you) and school and work allowed little time to write long pieces. I didn't even manage to write two words about the Minitek festival, but my friend Helene Sandi managed to say everything I wanted (not without controversy from her detractors). Well 2009 didn't started well with the courtesy of the Israeli Self Defense Forces (How cute) fireworks. You can always count on Israel to bring us two steps closer to Armageddon. And lets not forget the "brave" and "caring" heroes of Hamas that have done nothing to prevent the slaughter and will be the victors at the expense of the civilian population. Well, here in America things are different. We are moving to an age of change... four years too late. It will be like trying to fix the Titanic with Play-doh. Let's not forget the collapse of the credit system. That should make for a very interesting year. Start collecting food, ammo, a Rosseta Stone guide to Mandarin, and enjoy western civilization while it lasts. On my neck of the woods, more like my neck of the jungle, my peep's had their up and downs. Our tiny cold war between all mighty Alvaro Uribe and the pseudo-socialist Chavez & Correa LLC brought us closer to war, victory to Uribe, false combat results defeat for Uribe, free hostages victory, the natives march defeat, and so on all year round. On the more hedonistic and decadent part 2009 has potential with Minitek II (we hope), Detroit, Mutek... well lets see how far we go.
